Hydra Wayfinder

Every visitor finds
the right door.

Hydra Wayfinder is a web-based interactive wayfinding platform for hospital, government, and institutional campuses. A visitor opens a public web page, searches for where they are going, and gets a route drawn on the map alongside written turn-by-turn directions — across floors and between buildings. No app download, no login, no account.

Large campuses are hard to navigate.

A visitor arriving for an appointment can face several buildings, multiple entrances, and floors numbered differently from one wing to the next. The information that would help is usually printed on a wall, and the wall does not change when a department does.

Visitors arrive stressed and late

People navigating an unfamiliar campus are often already anxious about why they are there. Time spent lost is time taken from the appointment, and late arrivals cost the facility scheduled capacity.

Static signage goes stale

Departments move, wings are renovated, entrances close for construction. Printed directories and lobby maps stay wrong until somebody funds a reprint, and the reprint takes weeks.

Staff become the map

When the signage falls short, the burden shifts to whoever is nearest — front desk, security, clinical staff — repeating the same directions all day instead of doing their own work.

What Hydra Wayfinder Does

One public web page, linked from the facility's own website, that answers a single question reliably: how do I get from where I am to where I need to be?

Campus and Floor Plan Maps

A site-level view of the whole campus with building selection, and clean interactive floor plans for each level with a floor selector. Visitors move between the site view and any floor without losing their place.

Destination Search

Search departments, clinics, services, entrances, elevators, and parking by name. Search tolerates misspellings and common synonyms, so a visitor looking for "hearing" still finds Audiology.

Turn-by-Turn Routing

Point-to-point guidance that works across floors and between buildings, rendered two ways at once: drawn on the map, and as an ordered list of plain-language steps — "Enter through the Main Entrance," "Take Elevator B to the third floor."

Accessible Route Option

A single toggle recalculates the route to prefer elevators and step-free paths, so a visitor using a wheelchair, a walker, or pushing a stroller gets a route they can actually take.

Entrance and Parking Guidance

Routes start where the visitor actually starts. Parking areas and entrances are mapped destinations in their own right, so directions can begin at the lot rather than at a lobby the visitor has not found yet.

"You Are Here" Wall Maps

High-resolution digital wall map files, each oriented to the viewer's perspective at that physical location and sharing the design system of the web map. Delivered as files; the customer prints and installs them.

Content Management

Destinations, routes, entrances, and parking are edited through an administrative interface rather than a code deploy. When a clinic moves on Monday, the map is right on Monday.

Multi-Campus by Design

The platform is multi-tenant. An organization with several sites runs them on one platform, each campus with its own address, its own map content, and its own administrators.

Hosted and Maintained by Hydra

Delivered as a subscription. Hosting, software updates, security patching, monitoring, and technical support are included. The customer links to it from their own website; nothing is installed on their network.

From Floor Plans to Go-Live

Hydra Wayfinder is delivered as an engagement, not a download. Implementation starts with customer-furnished floor plans and ends with a working public map the facility can point its visitors to.

  1. Kickoff and Schedule

Confirm scope, buildings and floors in play, points of contact, review milestones, and the delivery schedule.

  2. Floor Plan Digitization

Customer-furnished floor plans are converted into clean, consistent, web-ready map layers — one for each building and level, drawn to a single visual standard rather than inheriting whatever the source drawings look like.

  3. Destination and Route Modeling

Departments, clinics, services, entrances, elevators, stairs, and parking are captured as searchable destinations with their aliases, then connected by a routable network that spans floors and buildings so any point can be routed to any other.

  4. Stakeholder Review

A working draft is delivered for facility review. Corrections from the people who know the building — wrong department names, a door that is locked after hours, a hallway that is not a through route — are incorporated across review cycles before anything goes public.

  5. Accessibility Verification

Keyboard operation, screen reader behavior, color contrast, text scaling, and the written directions path are tested against Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 Level AA before go-live, not after.

  6. Wall Map Production

"You Are Here" map files are produced for each designated location, each rotated to match what a person standing there actually sees. Delivered as high-resolution digital files for the customer to print and install.

  7. Go-Live Coordination

The facility publishes a link to the platform from its own website. There is no software to install, no network connection to the customer's systems, and no data exchange to arrange.

  8. Documentation and Training

Administrator documentation and hands-on training so facility staff can maintain destinations and routes themselves.

After go-live, Hydra hosts, monitors, patches, and supports the platform under subscription, and makes periodic content changes as the facility changes. The map is a living document, and keeping it current is part of the service rather than a separate project.

Designed in, not reviewed at the end.

A route drawn on a map communicates nothing to someone who cannot see it. It is easy to treat that as an edge case and bolt a text summary onto the end of a project, which is how written directions end up incomplete, out of date, or missing the one turn that matters.

Hydra Wayfinder treats the written step list as a first-class representation of every route rather than a fallback. The same routing engine produces both the drawn line and the ordered steps, so the text can never drift out of sync with the map, and a screen reader user gets the same answer as everyone else.

Accessibility is a hard requirement for government buyers and a practical one for healthcare, where visitors with mobility, vision, or cognitive impairments are a core part of who the facility serves. The platform is built to Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 Level AA.

  • Full keyboard operation with visible focus indicators throughout. No interaction requires a pointer or a drag.
  • Semantic markup and ARIA labeling so search, results, the floor selector, and the map interface are announced correctly by screen readers.
  • Written turn-by-turn directions as a complete text alternative to the map canvas, not a summary of it.
  • Contrast-checked color throughout the interface and the map itself, verified against WCAG 2.1 Level AA ratios.
  • Scalable text that respects browser and operating system size settings without breaking layout or hiding content.
  • Optional spoken playback of directions in the browser, for visitors who would rather listen than read.
  • Accessible-route option that prefers elevators and step-free paths.

Campuses Where Visitors Get Lost

Anywhere a member of the public has to find one specific room inside a site made of several buildings.

Hospitals and Medical Centers

Multi-building campuses where patients arrive for a specific clinic, often for the first time, often anxious, and frequently with a mobility need.

Government Campuses

Federal, state, and municipal sites where the public arrives for services spread across buildings, and where Section 508 conformance is a procurement requirement rather than a preference.

Universities and Colleges

Campuses with high visitor turnover — prospective students, families, conference attendees — and a building inventory that changes every term.

Large Institutional Facilities

Research parks, civic centers, and corporate or industrial campuses where signage cannot keep pace with how often the interior layout changes.

Discuss a Deployment

Hydra Wayfinder is offered for license to healthcare, government, and institutional clients. Tell us about the campus you have in mind and we will walk through scope, floor plan requirements, accessibility conformance, and schedule.
